Waris Qidwai obtained M.B., B.S., M.C.P.S., F.C.P.S., and MRCGP (Int.) degrees. Qidwai is working as a Professor and Chairman at the Family Medicine Department. He is a Fellow and Member of the College of Physicians and Surgeons, Pakistan, and is an International Member of the Royal College of General Practitioners (UK). He is an Honorary Fellow of the College of General Practitioners of Sri Lanka. He received Wonca (World body of Family Doctors) Global Family Doctor of the Month Award in May 2004 and the prestigious Burki Gold Medal Award for his outstanding performance in fellowship examination of CPSP in 1997. He is a Certified Trainer for the Fellowship Training in Family Medicine, College of Physicians and Surgeons, Pakistan (CPSP), and is an Examiner and Convener for Membership and Fellowship Examinations. He is an Examiner for the Royal College of General Practitioners Membership (international) Examination and External Examiner for the Arab Board Specialization Examination in Family Medicine, Kuwait Board, Saudi Diploma, and M.D. examinations of Sri Lanka and Nepal. Qidwai is a Chair at Wonca Working Party on Research and has served as a Chair and Vice-Chair at the International Federation of Primary Care Research Networks. He is a Member at the South Asia Examination Board for MRCGP (international) and has played a pivotal role in the development of family medicine in the region. He is a Member at the International Advisory Board of the British Journal of General Practice. He is on the Advisory Board of the Academy of Family Physicians of India. He is a Chairman at the College of Family Medicine, Pakistan. Qidwai has editorial and manuscript review assignments for six medical journals and has published more than 125 papers. He has presented around 100 papers at scientific meetings. His major areas of interest include primary care research, heath systems, health care models, geriatrics, and women's health.
