Ya-Qin Zhang

Ya-Qin Zhang received the B.S. and M.S. degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC), Hefei, Anhui, China, in 1983 and 1985, and the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from George Washington University, Washington, DC, in 1989. He is currently the Managing Director of Microsoft Research Asia, Beijing, China, in 1999. He has authored and coauthored over 200 refereed papers in leading international conferences and journals, and has been granted over 40 US patents in digital video, Internet, multimedia, wireless, and satellite communications. Dr. Zhang served as Editor-in-Chief for the IEEE Trans. on Circuits and Systems for Video Technology from July 1997 to July 1999. He was the Chairman of the Visual Signal Processing and Communications Technical Committee of the IEEE Circuits and Systems (CAS) Society. He has received numerous awards, including several industry technical achievement awards and IEEE awards, such as the CAS Jubilee GoldenMedal. He recently received the Outstanding Young Electrical Engineer of 1998 Award.
