Zhongqi He was born on April 27, 1958, in Yuechi, Sichuan, China. He received the B.S. degree in applied chemistry in 1982 at Chongqing University, China, and the Ph.D. degree in biochemistry in 1996 at the University of Georgia. In 2000-2011, He was a Research Chemist, USDA-ARS, New England Plant, Soil, and Water Laboratory, Orono, Maine. Since 2011, He has been a Research Chemist, USDA-ARS Southern Regional Research Center, New Orleans, La, USA. The general research interests are the environmental chemistry and biochemistry of agricultural products, byproducts, and plant nutrients. Currently, there are three ongoing projects in He's lab: (1) quality and utilization of agricultural products and byproducts, including but are not limited to cottonseeds, animal manure, and relevant biochars; (2) the impacts of short- and long-term agricultural byproducts application on soil nutrient status (P, N, metals, and organic matter); (3) characterization of P and C bondings in agricultural products and soil nutrients by advanced spectroscopic techniques.
