1 Critical nodes of the hepatic insulin signaling: role of insulin receptor substrate 2 and protein tyrosine phosphatase 1B in the regulation of liver metabolism. We used IRS2-/- deficient mice to study the effects of inhibiting PTP1B by genetic and pharmacological approaches on hepatic insulin signaling and expression of gluconeogenic enzymes. 2 Hepatic insulin signaling in human liver We aimed to elucidate whether hepatic insulin resistance may contribute to hepatocyte apoptosis and fibrogenesis in nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and in chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection. 3 Insulin signaling in brown fat adipogenesis Insulin is an inducer of brown fat adipogenesis through the activation of a signaling network that involves positive/negative modulators. Our research is focused on the study of the impact of deleting several positive and negative modulators of insulin signaling on brown fat adipogenesis 4 Liver regeneration Our research is focused in the study of the role of protein tyrosine phosphatase 1B on liver regeneration. 5 Complications of Type 2 Diabetes mellitus We are currently investigation several molecular mechanisms responsible of diabetic retinopathy and nephropathy
