Uno Hämarik graduated from the University of Tartu, Estonia, in 1978, and received a Ph.D. degree in 1986. He worked in the same university from 1984 to 1995 as Researcher and Senior Researcher, and, since 1995, as Associate Professor (at the Institute of Mathematics since 2007). Hämarik is a Referee for mathematical reviews and was a guest editor for a special issue of the journal Numerical Functional Analysis and Optimization. He served as Referee for many journals, including Inverse Problems, Inverse Problems in Science and Engineering, the Journal of Inverse and Ill-posed Problems, SIAM J. Numerical Analysis, the Journal of Integral Equations and Applications, BIT Numerical Mathematics, et cetera. He has worked as Principal Investigator of grants for the Estonian Science Foundation from 1993 to 2012, and has gotten grants from the German Academic Exchange Service DAAD (1996) and the German Research Foundation DFG (1998, 1999, 2000, 2005, and 2010). Hämarik’s research interests include regularization of ill-posed problems, particularly self-regularization of ill-posed problems by projection methods and other discretization methods, regularization by the Tikhonov method and its iterated or extrapolated variants, rules for choice of the regularization parameters, and stopping rules in iteration methods. He is an author of about 50 scientific papers.
