Ali Ouaissi received the M.A. degree from the University of Paris VI, Paris, France, in 1974 and the Ph.D. and D.S. degrees from the University of Lille, France, in 1977 and 1980, respectively. Ouaissi acted as a Senior Investigator at Pasteur Institute, Lille, from 1977 to 1982; a Director of Research at the Institut National de la Santé et de la Recherche Médicale (INSERM), from 1989 to 2011; a Scientist in charge of a research team at INSERM, research unit no. 167, from 1989 to 1992; the Vice President of the “INSERM Nord-Pas de Calais-Grand Ouest” of the Regional Advisory Scientific Council (CSCRI),from 1993 to1995; the Head of the CJF INSERM research no. 96-04, from 1996 to 2000, at the Faculty of Medicine, Montpellier, France; and the Head of research unit no. 008 named “Trypanosomatids Pathogeny” that belongs to the Institut de Recherche pour le Développement (IRD), from 2001to 2007. Ouaissi has published widely in the areas of molecular biology and immunology of parasitic diseases, with over 130 articles and several book chapters. Ouaissi's research activities received financial support from national institutions, such as INSERM and the French Medical Research Foundation, and international institutions, such as WHO, EEC, Indo-French Centre for the Promotion of Advanced Research, IFCPAR. I have contributed since several years to the magisterial teachings of parasite immunology and molecular biology. Ouasissi served as a supervisor of 18 Ph.D. theses and 13 M.A. degrees. Ouaissi served as a member of the following committees: the Scientific Commission of IRD (2003–2007), the Regional Ethical Committee of Animal Experimentation (2002–2009), the Administrative Council of the French Society of Immunology (2005–2007), the Evaluation Committee (SVSE 3) of the French National Research Agency (ANR) (2008-2010), of several thesis juries in French and Foreign Universities. Ouaissi was a Member of the American Association of Immunology (2003-2007) and acted as an expert consulted by international reviews as well as national and international scientific organizations for grants evaluation.
