Evangelos Tsotsas received the Diploma in mechanical engineering from Aristotle University, Thessaloniki, in 1981. He obtained the Ph.D. degree and the habilitation in chemical engineering from Karlsruhe University, in 1985 and 1990, respectively. From 1991 to 1994, he was a Senior Process Specialist in R&D (solids processing) of the Dow Chemical Company. Since 1994, he holds the chair of Thermal Process Engineering at the Faculty of Process and Systems Engineering, Otto-von-Guericke-University Magdeburg. He is a member of the selection committee of the Alexander-von-Humboldt Foundation, since 2005, elected evaluator of the German Research Association (DFG, since 2004), Chairman of the European and German Working Parties on Drying, since 2004, editor of the book series Modern Drying Technology (Wiley-VCH) and holder of the Hosokawa-Micron Award for innovation in drying research, in 2002. He has authored more than 150 papers, book chapters, and books. The research interest of Evangelos Tsotsas is in kinetically controlled processes in particle systems and porous media, with special emphasis on drying, catalytic reactors, particle formulation in spray fluidized beds, particulate biofuels, discrete modelling (pore networks, discrete elements), and population balances.
