Mahesh Lakshman obtained the Ph.D. degree from the University of Oklahoma (with Professor Roland Lehr, student of the late R. B. Woodward). Subsequently, he was a Fogarty (postdoctoral) Fellow at the National Institutes of Diabetes, Digestive and Kidney Diseases (National Institutes of Health). After completion of the postdoctoral appointment, he joined the private sector as a Senior Scientist, and later returned to academia in 1998. He has been at The City College of New York (City University of New York) since 2000, where he is currently an Associate Professor of chemistry.
