Sabrina Mattoli graduated in Medicine and Surgery (summa cum laude) at the University of Perugia and earned the Specialty Diploma (summa cum laude) in Pulmonary Medicine from the Catholic University in Italy. She also holds a Ph.D. degree in biological Sciences. Over the last 12 years, she has been working as the President/Managing Director of Avail GmbH and Scientific Director of the Avail Biomedical Research Institute, a private research organization committed to the discovery of new therapeutic targets for the development of drugs more effective than those currently available for the treatment of asthma and other chronic pulmonary diseases. Previously, she held various research and medical management positions at internationally accredited academic/research institutions and in the pharmaceutical industry. She has also extensive clinical experience, having spent over 15 years in specialty practice. She has published over 80 articles in peer-reviewed journals, also including editorials and review papers, and has coauthored 6 book chapters. She serves as a Consulting Editor, Member of the Editorial Board, and Ad Hoc Referee for several scholarly journals, and she acts as an Independent Expert Evaluator of grant applications and research proposals for major funding bodies in Europe and in the USA. She is a Member of the American Association of Immunologists, the American Thoracic Society, the European Respiratory Society, the Italian Medical Association, and the Swiss Medical Association.
