Ralf Schwarzer is Professor of psychology at the Freie University of Berlin, Berlin, Germany, and Adjunct Professor at York University, Canada. He received his Ph.D. degree in 1973, and was appointed Professor of education in 1974 and psychology in 1982. After sabbatical leaves at the University of California, Berkeley and Los Angeles, he was a Visiting Professor at the Chinese University, Hong Kong, and at York University, Canada. He has published about 400 papers and has cofounded three journals: Anxiety, Stress, and Coping: An International Journal, Zeitschrift f?r Gesundheitspsychologie, and Applied Psychology: Health and Well-Being. He was the President of the Stress and Anxiety Research Society (STAR), President of the European Health Psychology Society (EHPS), and President of the Health Psychology Division of the International Association for Applied Psychology (IAAP). His research focus lies in stress, coping, social support, self-efficacy, rehabilitation, and health behaviors. In 2007, he received the German Psychology Award.
