Zoltan Esik is a full professor and the head of the Department of Computer Science at the University of Szeged, Hungary. His research area is theoretical computer science with emphasis on problems related to automata, algebra, logic, and categories. In the monograph "Iteration Theories, The Equational Logic of Iterative Processes" (with Stephen L.Bloom), published by Springer Verlag in 1993, he gave a thorough treatment of the equational logic of fixed point operations in Lawvere algebraic theories, and covered several applications in computer science. He is the author of over 200 refereed journal and conference papers. In 2010, he was elected a member of the Academia Europaea.
