Axel S. Merseburger
Axel S. Merseburger is currently a staff member in the Department of Urologic Oncology as well as the Director of the Urologic Oncology Program at Hannover Medical School, Germany. Dr. Merseburger obtained his medical degree from Hannover Medical School in 2002 after following a one year academic research program in Washington D.C. where he finished his M.D. thesis. He completed a residency in surgery and urology at the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen, Germany, and was a Research Fellow at the Miller School of Medicine, Miami, USA, in 2006. Dr. Merseburger accepted a position as a staff member in Hannover in 2008 and was promoted to an Associate Professor in 2009. Dr. Merseburger is board certified in urology and is a member of numerous national and international urological and oncological associations. In addition to serving as a reviewer and member of the editorial board for many journals, Dr. Merseburger is Associate Editor of the World Journal of Urology. Furthermore, he is a member of a European Association of Urology (EAU) Guideline Group for Renal Cancer and Chairman of the EAU Guideline Group for Lasers and Technologies, Dr. Merseburger has won multiple awards, stipends and prizes for his molecular and clinical research and has published more than 130 papers in peer-reviewed journals.
