Alfred Karl Louis

Alfred Karl Louis received his Diploma in applied mathematics from Saarland University, in 1972, his Ph.D. in Mainz, in 1972, and the Habilitation in Münnster, in 1982. He spent the academic year 1980-1981 as an Assistant Professor at the State University of New York, in Buffalo. From 1983 to 1986, he was an Associate Professor at the University of Kaiserslautern; from 1986 to 1990, he had a position as a Full Professor at the Technical University of Berlin. Since 1990, he was the Chair for Applied Mathematics at Saarland University in Saarbrücken. He declined offers from the University of Munich and Louisiana State University at Baton Rouge. He was a Vice-President of the Saarland University in 1997–1999. He is Chevalier dans l'Ordre de la Palme Académique. Since 1978, he is working on mathematical problems from computerized tomography. He published books on inverse problems and on wavelets, he organized several international conferences on inverse problems and on medical imaging.
