Alfred Karl Louis
Alfred Karl Louis received his Diploma in applied
mathematics from Saarland University,
in 1972, his Ph.D. in Mainz, in 1972, and
the Habilitation in Münnster, in 1982. He spent the academic
year 1980-1981 as an Assistant
Professor at the State University of
New York, in Buffalo. From 1983 to 1986, he
was an Associate Professor at the University of
Kaiserslautern; from 1986 to 1990, he had a
position as a Full Professor at the Technical
University of Berlin. Since 1990, he was the Chair for Applied Mathematics
at Saarland University in Saarbrücken. He declined offers
from the University of Munich and Louisiana State University at
Baton Rouge. He was a Vice-President of the Saarland University in
1997–1999. He is Chevalier dans l'Ordre de la Palme Académique.
Since 1978, he is working on mathematical problems from computerized
tomography. He published books on inverse problems
and on wavelets, he organized several international conferences on
inverse problems and on medical imaging.
