Yukihiko Yasui received his D.D.S. degree from Hiroshima University in 1981 and his Ph.D. degree in medicine from Kyoto University in 1987. He then joined the Faculty of Kyoto University School of Medicine, where he served from 1984 to 1987 as an Assistant Professor of anatomy. He then moved to the University of Chicago, where from 1987 to 1989, he worked as a Research Associate in collaboration with Professor C. B. Saper. Then, he moved to Mie University School of Medicine as an Associate Professor. In 1993, he moved to his present position at Shimane University School of Medicine, where he serves as a Professor of anatomy and morphological neuroscience. His research has explored circuitry of the brain that controls basic functions including regulation of autonomic nervous system. He is also interested in the neuronal circuitry that is involved in the motor function as well as in the limbic system.
