Pia Parolin received the Ph.D. degree from Max-Planck-Institute for Limnology, Plön, Germany, and the National Institute for Amazon Research (INPA), Manaus, Brazil. She was a Scientist at Max-Planck-Institute for Limnology, Plön, Germany, and a Scientist and Lecturer at the University of Hamburg, Hamburg, Germany. She holds a postdoctoral position at the French National Institute for Agricultural Research (INRA). Parolin's fields of specialization are the following: general ecology, general botany, tropical ecology, biodiversity, plant functional traits, coevolution, speciation, and biogeography; tritrophic interactions, banker plants, integrated pest management, and biological pest control; floodplain ecology, plant ecophysiology, primary production, tree phenology, dispersal syndromes, regeneration and establishment, population biology, current and potential use of floodplain forests, and conservation.
