Isabel Marquez was born in Badajoz, Spain, in 1967. She got her B.S. degree in physics from the Universidad Complutense, Madrid, Spain, in 1991, and her Ph.D. degree from the Universidad de Granada in 1994. She was awarded with a Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Institut d'Astrophysique de Paris from 1995 to 1997. She works at the Instituto de Astrofísica de Andalucía (CSIC) in Granada, Spain, where she got a permanent position as a researcher in 2003. She was promoted to the post of Senior Scientist in 2009. Her research has been focused on the study of the relationship between the properties of the host galaxy (morphology, kinematics, and star-forming processes), the effect of gravitational interactions, and the presence and level of nuclear activity.
