Pedro L. Vera
Pedro L. Vera received his B.A. (magna cum laude), M.S., and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Miami, Fla, USA, in 1981, 1985, and 1987, respectively. From 1987 to 1988, he was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Miami, and from 1988 to 1993, a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Pittsburgh. From 1993 to 1999, Dr. Vera was an Assistant Professor at the Department of Neurosurgery at The George Washington University, Washington, DC. Since 1999, Dr. Vera has been at the Bay Pines VA Healthcare System, and presently, he is an Associate Professor at the Department of Surgery at the University of South Fla, Tampa, Florida, USA. His current research focus is on the role of a specific proinflammatory cytokine (macrophage migration inhibitory factor) on the development of pelvic viscera inflammation and cancer.
