Yansheng Du was born in Beijing, China. He received the biology degree (B.S. degree) from Beijing Normal University, Beijing, China in 1982 and the Ph.D. degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine, Detroit, USA in 1994. During 1984–1987, Du studied in Beijing Medical University as a Postgraduate student. In 1994, he was a Postdoctoral Fellow at Eli Lilly and Company. From 1998 to 2002, Du was an Assistant Scientist/Assistant Professor in Indiana University and a Scientist in Eli Lilly and Company. Presently, he is an Associate Professor in Indiana University School of Medicine, USA and an Adjunct Professor in Purdue University. He is mainly interested in apoptosis, protection, cell regeneration, stem cells, and therapeutic development for ischemic injury/neurodegenerative disorders. Since 1998, he has received numerous grant awards from US NIH, Alzheimer Association, American Heart Association, and other research/industrial foundations.
