Giovanni Villani

National Research Council, Italy

Giovanni Villani was born in Sant’Antimo (Na), Italy, on August the 24nd, 1958. Villani's scientific high school degree was at the Liceo Scientifico “A. Diaz” in Caserta with full marks (60/60). Villani discussed his graduation thesis at the Department of Chemistry of the University of Napoli on March the 28th, 1983. The title of the thesis was “Trasferimento di atomi tra siti metastabili” (“Atoms transfer among metastable sites”). Villani graduated with full marks and honors. Villani's advisor was Giuseppe Del Re, Professor of theoretical chemistry. From September 1984 to August 1985, he was a Research Associate with the group of Professor Claudette Barbier at the Laboratoire de Chemie Physique Moleculaire of the Université Claude Bernard in Lion, France. Since December 1988, he is in the permanent position of a Researcher of the Italian Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche (CNR, National Research Council) at the Istituto di Chimica Quantistica ed Energetica Molecolare (ICQEM) in Pisa. ICQEM as such does not exist any longer after December 31st, 2001. It has become part of the Istituto per i Processi Chimico-Fisici (IPCF) and then Istituto di Chimica dei Composti OrganoMetallici. Villani's research subjects are (1) transfer of energy, atoms, protons, and electrons; (2) properties of special materials; (3) systems and processes of biological interest; (4) analysis of the main concepts of Physics and Chemistry.
