Stefan G. Samko

Stefan Samko, born on March 28, 1941, in Rostov-na-Donu, Russia, is a Full Professor at the Rostov State University, Rostov-on-Don, Russia and at the University of Algarve, Faro, Portugal, Fulbright Professor (USA, 1992-1993), and an Honorable Member of the Academy of Superior Schools in Ukraine. He graduated from the Math Department of the Rostov State University (RGU) in 1964 and obtained postgraduate studies there between 1965 and 1967 under the supervisorship of F.D. Gakhov. He defended his Ph.D. Theses in 1967 in Belarusian State University (Minsk) and the Doctor Degree Theses (the second degree in USSR) in 1978 in Steklov Mathematical Institute (Moscow). He served as an Associate Professor in RGU from 1968 to 1979 and Full Professor there from 1979 till present. He was the Chair of the Differential and Integral Equations in RGU from 1980 to 1995 and the Dean of the Department of Mathematics and Mechanics in RGU from 1979 to 1981. Since 1995 till present, he serves also at the University of Algarve, Portugal, as a Member of the Scientific center CEAF at the Instituto Superior Técnico in Lisbon, and the coordinator of the group Harmonic Analysis, Operator Theory and Applications, and the corresponding project. He is the author of the following books: Equations with Involutive Operators and Their Applications (2002), Fractional Integrals and Derivatives, Theory and Applications (1993), and Hyper singular Integrals and Their Applications (1998). He is also a Member of the Editorial Boards of international journals such as Integral Transforms and Special Functions, Russian Mathematics, Fractional Calculus and Applied Analysis and participated in the Proceedings of A. Razmadze Mathematical Institute, Journal of Mathematical Inequalities. His main scientific interests are fractional calculus, function spaces, and singular and hypersingular operators.
