Carson R. Harris is residency trained in emergency medicine and completed a medical toxicology preceptorship. He is board certified in emergency medicine and has current academic ranks of Associate Professor of emergency medicine at the University of Minnesota Medical School and Clinical Assistant Professor at the College of Pharmacy at the University of Minnesota. He completed his medical training at the Brooke Army Medical Center. Dr. Harris retired from the US Army Reserves in 1998 and attained the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Since 1996, he has been the Director of Toxicology Education for the Emergency Medicine Training Program and is the Director of Clinical Toxicology Services. He has been a Consultant for the Regional Poison Center and participates in educational activities of the poison center. Dr. Harris is the Associate Program Director of the Medical Toxicology Fellowship at his institution. He has published several articles primarily in the area of toxicology and is the Editor of two textbooks, Emergency Management of Selected Drugs of Abuse, and The Toxicology Handbook for Clinicians. Dr. Harris is currently a Senior Staff Attending at the Regions Hospital in Saint Paul, Minn, USA. He has received honors of Outstanding Faculty Teaching Award, and Top Doc in Emergency Medicine and Toxicology in the Twin Cities. He has been active in international projects. During the year 2010, he traveled to Haiti on 2 medical mission trips and lead a group of physicians, nurses, and dentists to teach rural Bolivian healthcare providers on topics of acute care. From 2007 to 2011, the 4 conferences he coordinated and directed in Bolivia have attracted more than 1400 local providers. More recently, Dr. Harris was a temporary attending in Arusha, Tanzania. His areas of interest are drugs of abuse, resource utilization, and international emergency medicine. His nonclinical interests include photography, homebrewing, tennis, and golf. He has a First-Degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do.
