Guowei Yang received his Ph.D. degree in material physics and chemistry at Tsinghua University, Beijing, China in 2000. He held a Postdoc position at Department of Physics and Frederick Seitz Materials Research Laboratory of the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign, USA. Then he joined the Sun Yat-sen University, Guangzhou, China in 2002, where he is currently a Cheung-Kong Professor of materials physics and chemistry and Director of Nanotechnology Research Center. He also served as a Guest Professor in the Department of Physics at the Universitaet Leipzig, Leipzig, Germany in 2004; the Centre d'Elaboration de Matériaux et d'Etudes Structurales, CNRS, Toulouse, France in 2006; the National Institute for Materials Science (NIMS), Tsukuba, Japan in 2009. Professor Yang’s research interests lie in the area of experiment and theory of nanomaterials and nanostructures. In experimental field, he specializes in the growth, properties, and applications of optoelectronic nanomaterials, especially the laser-based nanomaterials processing. In theoretical field, he focuses on the thermodynamic nucleation and kinetic growth of the metastable phase at the nanometer scale, and the surface and interface energy of nanomaterials.
