Gregory M. Ayers
Gregory M. Ayers primary areas of expertise are in electrophysiology and critical care medicine. He is considered a worldwide expert in the treatment of atrial fibrillation. He has over 25 years of experience working with medical device companies. Dr Ayers began his research in cardiology as an undergraduate student, working on electrodes for implantable defibrillators and performed pioneering research in the area of cardiac ablation. He began his career in industry at InControl, the developer of the first implantable atrial defibrillator, where he served as VP of Clinical Affairs. He founded and served as President & CEO of CryoCor, a company that used cryogenic technology to treat arrhythmias. Dr Ayers is cofounder of IMedPro, a German consulting firm helping companies seeking EU approval. He is a Consultant for Heartstream, a company that pioneered the use of AEDs, and he assisted the company in securing “over the counter” designation. He is a founder of SonarMed, a company developing products for critical care medicine. He served as Medical Director of Catheter Robotics, a company focused on remote control of cardiac catheters to minimize X-ray exposure to the physician. Presently, he is the President & CEO of ViewRay, an oncology company that is developing a system that utilizes MRI imaging to track the tumor while delivering external beam radiation therapy. Dr Ayers has received numerous awards, including Phi Beta Kappa, Tau Beta Pi, Alpha Omega Alpha, Outstanding Alumnus - Hillenbrand Biomedical Engineering Center, Outstanding Interdisciplinary Engineer, and Distinguished Engineering Alumnus – Purdue University, West Lafayette, Ind, USA. He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, the American Institute of Medicaland Biological Engineering, and the Heart Rhythm Society. He holds 21 patents and has published over 200 book chapters, scientific abstracts, and manuscripts. Dr. Ayers received his B.S. and Ph.D. degrees from Purdue University, and his M.D. degree from Indiana University, Bloomington, Ind, USA.
