Gary S. Shaw received his B.S. degree with honor in biochemistry and chemistry from McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. He completed his Ph.D. degree in physical organic chemistry at McMaster in 1988 under the direction of Dr. R. F. Childs. Following this, Dr. Shaw was an Alberta Heritage Foundation for Medical Research Postdoctoral Fellow with Dr. B. D. Sykes in the Department of Biochemistry at the University of Alberta. Dr. Shaw joined the faculty at the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario, Canada, in 1992. He is currently a Professor of biochemistry and Canada Research Chair in structural neurobiology. His research interests include the structure and function of calcium-binding proteins and the mechanisms of ubiquitylation.
