Boris Gaensicke

Boris Gaensicke obtained an M.S. degree in physics at the Technische Universitaet Berlin, Germany, in 1993, and a Ph.D. degree in physics at the Georg-August Universitaet Goettingen, Germany, in 1997. He worked as a Research Assistant at the Universitaets-Sternwarte Goettingen from 1997 to 2001, focussing on the properties of accreting white dwarfs. During that period, he was visiting scholar at Stanford University, USA, working on neutron star atmospheres, and at the Osservatorio di Capodimonte, Naples, Italy, working on X-ray observations of accreting magnetic white dwarfs. From 2002 to 2006, he held an PPARC Advanced Fellowship at the University of Southampton, UK, and the University of Warwick, UK, working predominantly on large surveys of accreting white dwarf binaries. Currently, Boris Gaensicke is an Associate Professor in the Department of Physics at the University of Warwick. His main research interests are the evolution of compact binaries, in particular accreting and detached white dwarf binaries, observational population studies of white dwarf binaries, stellar atmospheres, ultraviolet astronomy, and large-scale astronomical surveys.
