Thomas W. Meeks
Thomas W. Meeks, M.D., was born in Douglas, USA, in 1974. He attended Furman University in Greenville, USA, and graduated earning the B.S. degree summa cum laude in 1996. There, he received the Furman Founder's Scholarship Cup for superior academic performance. He then attended the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, USA, and there, was elected into Alpha Omega Alpha and obtained his Ph.D. degree. He then completed training in general psychiatry at the Emory University residency program through 2000 in Atlanta, USA. Subsequently, he trained in the subspecialty of geriatric psychiatry in clinical and research fellowships at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD). He subsequently joined the UCSD Faculty as an Assistant Professor of psychiatry. He has earned a Young Investigator Award from NARSAD: The Brain and Behavior Research Fund. His clinical and research interests have included neuropsychiatric complications of dementia, comorbid late-life depression and chronic pain, late-life subsyndromal depression, and Latino mental health issues. He has published over 20 peer-reviewed publications in such topics and has served as an Assistant to the Editor on the Editorial Board of the American Journal of Geriatric Psychiatry.
