Laurence Karper was born in New York City, USA, in 1962. He completed his undergraduate work at the University of Pennsylvania (BA and MA in South Asian Studies) and then received his Medical Degree from UMDNJ-RWJMS. To further his life long interest in Psychiatry he completed a residency at Yale University School of Medicine and then completed a NARSAD funded fellowship in the neurobiology of schizophrenia and substance use disorders. His clinical interests and research interests have included Schizophrenia, the impact of substance use on the course of mental illness, and the effects of early childhood trauma on adult psychopathology. He is currently Vice-Chair of the Department of Psychiatry for Acute Services at the Lehigh Valley Health Network in Allentown, Pennsylvania, USA.
