Subhada Prasad Pani
S. P. Pani received his MBBS degree in Orissa, India in 1977, M.D. degree in microbiology from Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) (Pondicherry, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India), Madras University in 1983, and Ph.D. degree in epidemiology from Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) (Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India), Pondicherry University in 1990. After 5 years of teaching medical microbiology at JIPMER (from 1980 to 1985), Pani joined Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, as full time Senior Scientist and headed the Division of Clinical Epidemiology for about 22 years (1985–2007). Subsequently, he was a faculty member at AIMST University, Malaysia, and Dean of Faculty of Medicine, ACMS, Malaysia. He serves as an Adviser to Clinical Research Centre, Kedah, Malaysia. He was principal/coinvestigator for several WHO- and ICMR-funded projects, a Member of the Steering Committee of WHO, and a research consultant for international organizations, national and state departments of health as well as science and technology. He developed and actively participated in international research linkages with WHO, Imperial College, London, and Erasmus University, The Netherlands. Pani's research interest includes public health epidemiology and control of tropical infectious diseases and medical education. He has been involved in teaching microbiology and epidemiology to MBBS, BDS, B.Pharm, B.S. (Biotech), Diploma in Physiotherapy, Diploma in Nursing, and pre-med courses and epidemiology for MBBS course. Apart from these, he has also been involved in teaching M.S. course, guiding Ph.D. students (epidemiology and microbiology) and M.D./M.S. dissertations for students from JIPMER. He has developed and conducted several training courses for international/ national research fellows/medical officers and medical students. Dr. Pani has been an examiner for Ph.D. and MPH courses in India.
