Michael Wallner completed his Ph.D. in the group of Professor Fátima Ferreira in 2004. The topic of his thesis was the generation, and physicochemical as well as immunologic characterization of variants of the major birch pollen allergen Bet v 1 applicable in novel concepts of allergen immunotherapy. Thereafter, Michael Wallner worked as Postdoc at the University of Salzburg, where he continued his research on pollen and associated food allergies. Michael Wallner received research grants from the Austrian Science Fonds as well as the Austrian Agency for International Cooperation in Education and Research, which allowed him to research mechanism of allergenicity of pollen allergens. At present Michael Wallner holds a position as Associate Professor at the University of Salzburg.
