Michael Wallner completed his Ph.D. degree in the group of Professor Fatima Ferreira in 2004. The topic of his thesis was the generation and physicochemical as well as immunologic characterization of variants of the major birch pollen allergen Bet v 1 applicable in novel concepts of allergen immunotherapy. Thereafter, Wallner worked as Postdoc at the University of Salzburg, Salzburg, Austria, where he continued his research on pollen and associated food allergies. Wallner received research grants from the Austrian Science Fund as well as the Austrian Agency for International Cooperation in Education and Research, which allowed him to research mechanism of allergenicity of pollen allergens. At present Wallner holds a position as Associate Professor at the University of Salzburg.
