Alfons J. M. Stams
Alfons Stams studied molecular sciences at Wageningen University, and received his Ph.D. degree from the University of Groningen in 1985. Since then, he has been working at the Laboratory of Microbiology of Wageningen University. His research interest is in the physiology of anaerobic microorganisms that play a role in environmental biotechnological processes. His research areas include syntrophic interactions in methanogenic environments, physiology and application of sulfate reduction, redox transformations by anaerobic bacteria in microbial fuel cells, anaerobic degradation of aromatic hydrocarbons and chlorinated compounds, and granulation and biofilm formation by anaerobic bacteria.
