Akinori Nakamura works as an Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine (Neurology and Rheumatology) and Division of Intractable Disease Care Center, Shinshu University Hospital, Matsumoto, Japan. He got his M.D. degree in 1991 and his Ph.D. degree in Shinshu University Graduate School of Medicine in 1997. Nakamura serves as a neurologist and specializes in myopathy (Duchenne muscular dystrophy, etc.) and motor neuron disease (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, etc.). His research interests focus on the field of molecular genetics, particularly in the study of molecular mechanisms of neuronal/muscular diseases in humans and the development of therapies for the diseases, as (1) identification of mutation genes and discovery of gene functions, (2) molecular therapies such as gene and exon-skipping therapies for Duchenne muscular dystrophy, and (3) study of molecular mechanism of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. Nakamura has more than 70 papers published in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
