Akira Taguchi

Akira Taguchi received a D.D.S. degree in 1988 from Hiroshima University, Hiroshima, Japan; the Ph.D. degree in 1992 from Hiroshima University; and PGCert (clinical epidemiology) in 2007 from University of Washington, Seattle, Wash, USA. In 1992, he joined the faculty of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology, Hiroshima University as an Assistant Professor. From 1995 to 2005, he served as a Lecturer in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology, Hiroshima University Hospital. During 1996 and 1997, he was a Visiting Scholar in the Department of Oral Medicine, University of Washington. From 2006 to 2008, he was a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology, Hiroshima University Hospital. Since 2008, he has been a Professor in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology, Matsumoto Dental University, Shiojiri, Japan, and became a Vice Director of Matsumoto Dental University Hospital since 2010. Other professional activities were International Editorial Board of Dentomaxillofacial Radiology, Scientific Member of the Japan Nurse’s Health study in Japan Menopause Society, Scientific Member of the research on bisphosphonate-related osteonecrosis of the jaws in Japanese Society for Bone and Mineral Metabolism, International Advisory Board of Journal of Clinical and Investigative Dentistry, International Advisory Board of Clinical Dentistry and Research, International Advisory Board of Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology. His areas of research interest are as follows: 1) triage screening for osteoporosis in dental clinics by dental radiographs; 2) relationship between oral health, osteoporosis, cardiovascular diseases, and cancer; 3) evaluation of bone quantity and quality of the jaws; 4) relationship between heredity and jaw bone mass.
