Peter Woias has graduated from Electrical Engineering at the Technical University of Munich in 1988. In 1995, he received his doctorate from the TU Munich on the application of ion sensitive field effect transistors in flow injection analysis. After that, he was a research group manager in microactuators and microfluidics and, later, the head of a research department on micromechanics, actuators, and fluidics at the Fraunhofer Institutes for Solid State Technology and for Integrated Circuits, both in Munich. Since 2000, he is a Full Professor and the Head of the Laboratory for Design of Microsystems at the Department of Microsystems Engineering (IMTEK) of the Albert-Ludwig-University Freiburg. His actual research focuses on microfluidics for medical applications, microenergy harvesting, chemical microprocess engineering, and silicon and polymer microfabrication.
