Daniela Bonofiglio graduated in the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery at University of Perugia, Perugia, Italy, in 1990 and in 1993 joined the Department of Pharmaco-Biology, University of Calabria, Calabria, Italy. Since then, she has been working in both clinical and experimental research. In 1995, she obtained her degree as specialist in endocrinology and diabetes at University of Messina, Messina, Italy. She is an Associate Professor of clinical pathology at the University of Calabria. She has mainly carried out experimental and clinical researches in the field of the endocrinology and oncology and in some hormonal-metabolic deficiency diseases. Her research interests include clinical and translational research in endocrine-related cancers, with a special focus on the molecular mechanisms by which peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPAR-γ), a prototypical member of the nuclear receptor, induces growth inhibition and apoptosis in human breast and thyroid cancer cells. Her data suggest that PPAR-γ ligands represent pharmacologic tools to be exploited in the novel therapeutic adjuvant strategies for treatment of patients affected by breast and thyroid carcinoma.
