Shuhei Yamaguchi received an M.D. degree from Kyoto University, Kyoto, Japan, in 1979 and a Ph.D. degree from Shimane Medical University, Izumo, Japan, in 1988. She served as a Resident in internal medicine, Kyoto University Hospital, from 1979 to 1980; a Postdoctoral Fellow, neurology, University of California, Davis, Calif, USA, from 1988 to 1991; and a Research Fellow, psychology, University of California, Berkeley, Calif, USA, from 2001 to 2002. Yamaguchi works as a Professor of neurology, Faculty of Medicine, Shimane University, since 2006; the Director of Shimane Medical Center for Dementia, since 2011; and the Deputy Director of Shimane University Hospital, since 2012. Her research areas include cognitive neuroscience (studies of frontal lobe function and motivation using several techniques including functional MRI, electroencephalography, and transcranial magnetic stimulation) and stroke (cohort study of silent brain lesions, and treatment of poststroke apathy and vascular dementia).
