Sarkarainadar Balamurugan received his Ph.D. degree from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, India, in 2002. Later he moved to Japan in October 2002 to pursue his postdoctoral research work as a Monbusho Special Researcher at the University of Kyoto, Kyoto, Japan. There, he worked one and a half years. After this Special Researcher Fellowship, he was awarded as a National Institute for Materials Science (NIMS) postdoctoral research fellow by NIMS Autonomous Research Institute, Tsukuba, Japan, where he spent three and a half years in the Superconducting Materials Centre/Advanced Nanomaterials Laboratory. After gaining NIMS experience, he was awarded the prestigious Alexander von Humboldt (AvH) Research Fellowship by AvH Foundation, Germany. He carried out his AvH research work at the University of Munster (2008–2010), Munster, Germany, with the cooperation of Professor Rainer Pottgen. Currently he is working as an Associate Professor at the Department of Nanotechnology, Noorul Islam Centre for Higher Education/Noorul Islam University, Tamil Nadu, India. Based on his academic and research achievements in the field of chemistry and physics of materials, he has been honored and serving as an editorial advisory board member in various international open access journals. Besides these, he has also acted as a referee/reviewer in various journals and reviewed several research articles with better judgments. So far he has published about 66 authored and coauthored research articles in various reputed peer-reviewed international journals with author h-index = 10. His research interests are mainly focused on synthesis and characterization of oxide-based bulk and nanoscale materials, structure-physical property correlations, high-pressure materials chemistry, crystal growth of functional oxide materials using various flux reagents, magnetic materials, and exploration of magnetic and catalytic properties of functional materials.
