Natig M. Atakishiyev

National Autonomous University of Mexico, Mexico

Natig Atakishiyev was born in Baku, Azerbaijan, in 1939. He received the M.C. degree in theoretical physics from the Azerbaijan State University (Baku) in 1961, the Ph.D. degree from the Institute of High Energy Physics (Serpukhov, Russia) in 1971, and the second doctoral degree from the Institute of Theoretical Physics (Kiev, Ukraine) in 1987. Since 1994, Atakishiyev is with the Instituto de Matemáticas, Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, in Cuernavaca, México as a Investigador Titular C. He is mainly interested in special functions of mathematical physics: algebraic approach to difference equations and operators, group-theoretic interpretation of special functions and orthogonal polynomials and integral and finite (discrete) Fourier transforms. In 1996, he was Editor (with T.H.Seligman and K.B.Wolf) of the "Proceedings of the IV Wigner Symposium", published by World Scientific. In 2005, he was Editor (with J.A. de la Peña and E.Vallejo) of the proceedings of "XV Coloquio Latinoamericano de Álgebra", published in Contemporary Mathematics, Vol.376, by the American Mathematical Society.
