Dietmar Basta was born in Berlin, Germany, in 1970. He received the Diploma (neurobiology) and the Ph.D. degree (neuroscience) from the Humboldt-University of Berlin, Germany, in 1996 and 1998, respectively. Since 1998, his main research topics are related to auditory and vestibular research. He was a Research Fellow at the Humboldt-University of Berlin and the University of Potsdam. Presently, he is the Head of the Neurootological research group at the Emergency Hospital Berlin and Chair for Neurophysiology at the Charité Medical School (University of Berlin). Basta is mainly interested in basic and clinical research about the diagnostic and treatment of hearing and vestibular disorders. He developed a method for a direct posturography in daily-life conditions and an individualized neurofeedback rehabilitation procedure for the treatment of balance deficits. In 2008, he was a recipient of the Biennal German Vertigo Award. Basta is an editorial board member and a referee for a large number of international scientific journals.
