Deepak Chopra was born in Kolkata in October 1979. He obtained his B.S. degree from Jadavpur University, Kolkata, India, and an M.S. degree from the Indian Institute of Science ( IISc), Bangalore, India, in May 2004 followed by a Ph.D. degree at the Department of Solid State and Structural Chemistry Unit, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India, in October 2006 working under the supervision of Professor T. N. Guru Row. He worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow at IISc for a period of one year (till October 2007) and then moved to the Department of Chemistry, University of Toledo, Toledo, Oh, USA, to pursue his postdoctoral studies under the supervision of Professor A.A. Pinkerton till the middle of March 2009. He then joined the Department of Chemical Sciences at the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Bhopal in March 2009 as an Assistant Professor. His research interests are primarily in the areas of polymorphism and cocrystallization in pharmaceutical solids, investigation of intermolecular interactions in crystalline solids (including strained compounds), in situ cryocrystallography (determination of crystal and molecular structures of compounds which are liquids at room temperature), and phase transitions in organic solids and electron density analysis (both experimental and theoretical) in molecular crystals using high resolution X-ray data.
