Hanns Plenk

Hanns Plenk, M.D., was born in 1940, in Vienna, Austria. he obtained the M.D. degree from the Medical School of the University of Vienna, Austria, in 1964. So far, he authored more than 400 publications, mainly in refereed journals, focusing on several topics that include repair and diseases of skeletal tissues, reactions to materials for bone replacement, joint endoprostheses, dental implants, and vascular implants (stents, coils for aneurysm embolization). He serves as a Scientific Editor and as a Member of the editorial boards of several international journals. He received many national (Austria) and international awards and participated in many conferences and congresses. He held several positions throughout his career. in 1964, he worked as an Assistant Professor at the Institute for Histology and Embryology of the Medical School of the University of Vienna. In 1976, he became the Head of Bone and Biomaterials Research Laboratory. From 1984 to 2003, he occupied the post of an associate Professor of histology and embryology at the same university, retiring in 2004 as a Professor emeritus. Since 2000, he serves as an Adjunct Professor at the Dental School, University of Pennsylvania, Penn, USA. From 2005 to 2008, he served as a Guest Professor of histology and embryology at the PMU Paracelsus Private Medical University of Salzburg, Austria.
