Kang Tai obtained his B.A.E. degree with honors in mechanical engineering from the National University of Singapore after which he gained more than two years of experience as a design engineer in the consumer electronics industry. He got his Ph.D. degree from the Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine, London, UK. He then joined the Nanyang Technological University in Singapore where he is currently serving as an Associate Professor at the School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. Tai teaches various courses in design optimization and design analysis. His research interests are in design optimization, multiobjective optimization, structural topology and shape optimization, genetic and evolutionary algorithms, genetic programming, system identification, probability collectives, and distributed optimization. He is a Member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and the International Society for Structural and Multidisciplinary Optimization (ISSMO).
