Renato L. Santos was graduated from the Veterinary School and earned an M.S. degree from the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), Belo Horizonte, MG, Brazil. He finished a Ph.D. degree in veterinary pathology at Texas A&M University, Canyon, Tex, USA. He has served as a Visiting Associate Professor at the University of California, Davis, Calif, USA, and currently works as an Associate Professor of veterinary pathology at UFMG. His research interests include primarily salmonellosis, brucellosis, and leishmaniasis. Santos serves as a Researcher of the Brazilian National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq), and he is a Fellow of the John Simon Guggenheim Foundation. He currently holds the positions of a Provost for research at UFMG and the President of the Brazilian Association for Veterinary Pathology (ABPV).
