John Pickering received the B.S. (with honors), Ph.D., and B.A. (with honors) degrees. Pickering works as a Senior Research Fellow in the Christchurch Kidney Research Group, University of Otago, Christchurch, New Zealand. His Ph.D. degree is in the physics of the copper vapor laser treatment of port‐wine stains. Since 2007, he has been involved in clinical and observational trials of acute kidney injury (AKI), including the world's first randomized control trial in AKI following early detection by an injury biomarker (the EARLYARF trial). Pickering is researching the detection and utilization of novel biomarkers of AKI and is constructing a mathematical model of the response of the kidney to fluid boluses.
