Luciano A. Moreira

Luciano A. Moreira received his M.S. degree in plant sciences from the Universidade Federal de Viçosa (1994), Brazil, and the Ph.D. degree in genetics and plant breeding from the Universidade Federal de Viçosa and Centre of Plant Breeding Reproduction Research, The Netherlands (1998). From 1998 to 2002, Dr. Moreira was a Research Associate at the Department of Genetics of the Case Western Reserve University (Cleveland, OH, USA) studying transgenic mosquitoes to block plasmodium. In 2002, he was appointed as a research scientist of the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (FIOCRUZ), Brazil. Presently, during his sabbatical at the University of Queensland (Australia), he has been studying the interaction between the bacterium Wolbachia with the mosquito Aedes aegypti to block dengue fever. His research interests include transgenic mosquitoes, malaria, pathogens-mosquitoes interaction, and insect molecular biology.
