Christian Elger works as the Director and Head of the Department of Epileptology at the University of Bonn. He studied medicine at Tübingen and Münster before undertaking his internship and gaining his Ph.D. degree in physiology. Shortly thereafter, he began his neurology training at the University Hospital Münster. Elger has held research fellow posts in Switzerland, the University of Zürich, and the United States at The University of Tennessee. Elger has been President of the German Society of Clinical Neurophysiology and Chairman of the German division of the International League against Epilepsy where he has been a Member of the Committee of European Affairs. He is an Associate Editor for Epilepsy & Behavior. He has published numerous articles on experimental and clinical epileptology as well as cognitive research. In 2005, he received the Zülch Prize from the Max-Planck Foundation in recognition of his scientific studies in experimental epilepsy research. As of 2006, he has been the Scientific Managing Director for the Life & Brain Center at the University of Bonn.
