Zvoru Makura was born in 1965 and qualified MBChB in 1989 at Godfrey Huggins School of Medicine. In 1988, he was awarded a Malvern Trust Travelling Scholarship with electives in surgery at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in Delhi and Freeman Hospital, Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, England. After Basic Surgical Training in the North East of England, he commenced Higher Surgical Training on the Mersey Rotation in 1996. He was Lecturer in otolaryngology at the University of Liverpool. In 2001, he was the British Association of Head & Neck Oncologists Travelling Scholar and a Journal of Laryngology & Otology Travelling Fellow visiting Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York and the Prince of Wales Hospital in Hong Kong. He has been a Consultant ENT Surgeon at the Leeds Teaching Hospitals since 2002. He is the Lead Clinician for the Leeds Head & Neck Cancer Multidisciplinary Team at Bexley Wing, St James’s University Hospital. In 2006 he was awarded an HCA International Foundation Travelling Scholarship visiting Harvard Medical School Center for Laryngeal Surgery and Voice Rehabilitation, part of Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, USA. He is a Member of the Court of Examiners for the Royal College of Surgeons in England and the Director of the Leeds Head & Neck Anatomy Course. He has particular interest and expertise in benign and malignant diseases of the larynx, salivary glands, thyroid, and laser surgery.
