Kristin Eckardt holds a Ph.D. degree and is currently working as a Visiting Scientist at the University of Oslo, Oslo, Norway. Before this, she has been affiliated with the German Diabetes Center in Düsseldorf for nearly ten years. Her research is focused on the role of skeletal muscle as an endocrine organ and its role in the prevention of insulin resistance. One of her main topics is the interorgan crosstalk via secreted molecules such as myokines which are potentially important mediators of the beneficial effects of exercise on health. Her areas of expertise include myokines, skeletal muscle physiology, mitochondrial function, glucose and lipid metabolism, and insulin signaling.
