Enzo Zanchini obtained his graduation degree in civil engineering, cum laude, at the School of Engineering of the University of Bologna, Bologna, Italy, in 1975 and began his research activity in 1976. Formerly Assistant Professor and Associate Professor of technical physics, since November 1999, he is a Full Professor of industrial technical physics at the School of Engineering of the University of Bologna. He was a Visiting Scientist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 1984 and 1985 and at Shanghai Jiao Tong University in 2012. Since 1983, he is a Member of the Board of Professors of the Ph.D. degree School in Energy, Nuclear, and Environmental Control Engineering of the University of Bologna (formerly the Ph.D. degree School in Nuclear Engineering, till 1990, and the Ph.D. degree School in Technical Physics, till 1999). Prof. Zanchini devoted his research activity to the following fields: foundations of thermodynamics; special relativity; thermodynamic systems in electric or magnetic fields; unsteady heat conduction in solids; forced, natural, and mixed convection; exergy analysis; energy efficient buildings and renewable energy sources; ground coupled heat pumps. Prof. Zanchini is the author or coauthor of more than 120 scientific papers, 66 of which are published on international journals. Among the most important journals on which Prof. Zanchini published, one can quote, for instance: Physical Review B, International Journal of Heat and Mass Transfer, Energy, Renewable Energy, Energy and Buildings, ASME Journal of Heat Transfer, International Journal of Thermal Sciences, Foundations of Physics, European Journal of Physics, and Physica Scripta.
