Ming Cheng received the B.S. and M.S. degrees from the Department of Electrical Engineering, Southeast University, Nanjing, China, in 1982 and 1987, respectively, and the Ph.D. degree from the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, The University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong, in 2001. Since 1987, he has been with Southeast University, where he serves currently as a Professor and the Director of the Research Center for Wind Power Generation. From January to April, 2011, he worked in WEMPEC, University of Wisconsin Madison, USA, as a Visiting Professor. His teaching and research interests include electrical machines, wind power generation, and motor drives for electric vehicles. He has authored or coauthored over 250 technical papers and 4 books and is the holder of 45 patents in the aforementioned areas. Professor Cheng is a Fellow of IET and Senior Member of IEEE. He received the Environmental Excellence in Transportation Award from the Society of Automotive Engineers, USA in 2007, the GM Automotive Innovative Talent Award for China University from GM in 2008, and the IET Premium Award in Electric Power Application from IET, UK in 2009. He has served as Chair and Organizing Committee Member for many international conferences.
