Hans E. Junginger
Hans E. Junginger holds a Ph.D. degree and has graduated as a pharmacist. He was a Professor of pharmaceutics and the Head of the Division of Pharmaceutical Technology at the Leiden/Amsterdam Center for Drug Research, Leiden University, The Netherlands, until February 1, 2004 when he went with early retirement. Since January 1, 2004, he has been a Visiting Professor at the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Naresuan University, Phitsanulok, in Thailand, and since 2008 also at the German University of Cairo (GUC), Egypt. His main research areas include the development of novel-controlled drug delivery systems peroral routes, utilizing new (bioadhesive) polymers for the nasal, pulmonary and oral route for peptides, proteins, and (DNA) vaccines. He also was strongly involved in (trans)dermal drug research and has developed more than 100 cosmetic products based on aloe vera. He has received several major awards and three honorary doctorates (Gent, Belgium, in 1995, Potchefstroom University in South Africa in 2003, and London University, UK, in 2004). He has published more than 300 articles in refereed journals. 52 Ph.D. students and numerous M.S. students have graduated under his supervision. He is also the (co)inventor of 10 patents.
